Not too much happened until it got to the end, and to be fair, the ending was well done. The last story was ‘Spy Trap,’ and I have to say that it was a little boring. In the past I wished we had seen more of Ian Rider, so I’m glad we saw a little more of him here. It was interesting to see Alex and Ian together in a dangerous situation, and how naive Alex was, hehe. I loved the imagery of the ski resort as I have never been to one myself. It was a cool story with an invention that I certainly didn’t see coming, and neither did Alex! Typical Smithers!! 3 stars.Īnother story in first person, ‘Christmas At Gunpoint’ was pretty epic. It was interesting to read it in the first person from Alex’s perspective. ‘Tea With Smithers’ was also ridiculously short. I don’t think you can have a better short story than this. He is such a great character and his connection with Alex is unrivalled. The prison escape was cool, the action and final showdown was brilliant and most of all, I loved seeing Tom Harris again. I absolutely loved how it was connected to a small event that took place in in the very iconic first novel of Stormbreaker. Story four, ‘Secret Weapon,’ was the perfect short story. What was supposed to be a simple parasailing ride turned into something that could’ve been deadly, but Alex managed to stop it. Story three, ‘High Tension,’ was ridiculously short. Not as good as the first one, and one element of the story was a bit too ambitious, but definitely an enjoyable short story. It was incredibly quick, with cause and effect taking place seemingly instantly, and Alex taking down the bad guys once again. Ex-soldiers wanting to exploit a corrupt banker - definitely an interesting idea. The second story was ‘The Man With Eleven Fingers.’ It was pretty cool. However, the story was a lot of fun with intense action scenes, cool gadgets and a setting we haven’t seen Alex in before. which is exactly what horowitz writes bestįor story one, ‘Alex in Afghanistan,’ there were a couple mistakes early on made by Horowitz, which made me wince a little. Spy trap: follows straight on from skeleton key and the best of the short stories - alex is in a strange hospital and attending therapy and everything just seems a little off. Tea w smithers: very chill - one of the few times i think where we see that alex doesn't truly trust smithers and are reminded that even tho this man treats alex much better than everyone else at mi6 he still has a lot of apologise for in scorpia risingĬhristmas at gunpoint: on GOD this is exactly what i wanted! i wanted to see more of alex and ian's relationship!!! and we got served!!!!!!! the comedy of alex getting his puns and quips from his uncle, of ian trying to hide his job from alex while wrestling a man for a gun is only offset by the reflective narration which involves a lot of alex questioning his relationship w ian and seeming quite resentful of him - not unjustified ofc but it's just sad to know that alex has bought so into mi6's story when it comes to ian Secret weapon: follows directly on from eagle strike we catch up a character from point blank - again it's mostly fun w an undercurrent of hating mi6 High tension: life-threatening but in a fun and rompy way, rather than a way that makes me want to kill every adult in the series i like the child soldier discussion and the bait and switch of the villain especially The man with eleven fingers: i liked this one. i always forget just how chilling mi6 is when it comes to using alex and then they send alex into a terrorist base to follow a completely different plan from everyone else he's working with and relying on and then use him to unknowingly plant a bomb i'm having fun thoĪlex in afghanistan: just reads like a short alex novel (obvs w less set up and fewer twists) of alex's first 'failed' mission. Yes i am still putting off continuing past scorpia rising so here i am.
